SkyScan supplies all micro-CT scanners with high-speed volumetric reconstruction software, which can be optionally accelerated by a cluster of several computers connected by a gigabit network. The results of 3D reconstruction can be displayed by slice-by-slice scrolling, by three orthogonal sections through any internal point of the reconstructed space, or by conversion to realistic 3D models. |

The new reconstruction software can run on any PC or cluster of up to four PCs under 32 and 64-bit Windows XP / Vista operation systems. Depending on the size of the cross sections, it provides speed-up x10 to >x50 compared to the fastest currently available software and x2...x10 compared to reconstructors using graphical processors (GPU). The InstaRecon® reconstruction engine runs on standard PCs without involving any special hardware or GPU.
Standard NRecon, starting from ver.1.6 supports reconstruction by both NReconServer and InstaRecon® reconstruction engines using an identical user interface. For best performance of InstaRecon® reconstruction, the recommended PC configuration includes 32GB memory and two hard drives on a RAID0 array. The InstaRecon® reconstruction engine is available as an option with new SkyScan scanners, as well as as an upgrade to existing installations. A single computer version of the InstaRecon® reconstruction engine runs up to 8 threads (dual-Quad core), a cluster version runs up to 32 threads (four PCs with dual-Quad-core processors). Both versions can reconstruct datasets from any SkyScan scanner up to 8Kx8K pixels in cross section. The SkyScan's NRecon/NreconServer reconstruction software continues to be delivered for free with all SkyScan instruments. Demo versions of InstaRecon® reconstruction engine are available for one month free evaluation (require continuous internet connection). Nrecon accepts large format angular projection images to reconstruct cross section images with up to 8000x8000 pixels. User-friendly batch processing allows many reconstruction jobs with different settings to be run sequentially without operator input. |
