3...4JUN2004:
The Skyscan user meeting in Nice
 |
|
Nice on the French
Mediterannean coast was the pleasant location for the 2004
Skyscan users' meeting - ahead of the ECTS bone conference in
the same historic resort town. The lung featured strongly -
specifically mouse models of emphysema and asthma imaged both in
vivo and ex vivo by users from the pharmaceutical and academic
sectors, reflecting the strength of the Skyscan instruments in
this application. Other interesting themes "spontaneously"
clustered together at the meeting, including validation-intercomparison
studies correlating micro-CT measurements of bone with histology
(the best correlations to date), synchrotron tomography imaging
and biomechanical testing. There was a section on segmentation,
including local threshold methods and deformable meshed model
techniques aimed at a range of applications (including both bone
and soft tissue organs in vivo). And the discussions of
technical issues of voltage and filter selection and automatic
batch analysis of micro-CT datasets, fitted in well with a
presentation of high throughput mouse skeletal phenotyping. All
in all an enjoyable and informative get-together. |
